Here is A Fox Named Coyote. He is an artistic
representation of the fox that haunted my neighborhood for several nights
last winter. He kept waking us up in the middle of the night with a bizarre
piercing scream. At first we thought it was a crazy person, but then we
saw what we thought was a coyote walking down the road. It turns out it
was a fox. The next night the fox woke us up again. This time he was sitting
in the middle of the road in a viscous blizzard staring directly at us
while screaming. We took this as an omen.
After googling folk lore on foxes we read that seeing
a group of foxes is good luck, however seeing a lone fox is bad luck.
Also seeing a fox near your house is an omen for death. This freaked me
out, so I decided to create some art and hopefully break the curse. I
wrote a song about the animal the next morning entitled Coyote Wind,
and I completed this drawing a few months later. Sure enough after
writing the song, the fox moved down the road the next night to haunt
one of our neighbors.
